Development of stem cell therapy

Umbilical cord blood was successfully used for the first time in 1988 in France. Since then umbilical cord blood was used over 85 000 times for therapies in hospitals around the world. Samples from Stemlab were released for the first time in 2007.

Currently stem cells from the cord blood are used in medicine as a standard therapy in 80 diseases, there are also clinical trials that use cord blood for both stem cell transplants and emerging therapies in regenerative medicine.
